Ice Fishing is popular on Van Ettan Lake in the winter. Fish for Walleye, Salmon or Steel Head from the unspoiled banks of the AuSable River in the Fall, Winter and Spring. Pan fish, Pike and Bass are plentiful during the Summer.

 
April, May and early June are ideal for Birdwatching in several local hotspots, including wellknown Tuttle Marsh and Tawas State Park which lie on the migratory route. An active Bald Eagle's nest and an active Osprey nesting platform are in sight.
